The Greenland Shark offers very interesting possibilities
related to design. Especially have we concentrated our focus on the
skin of the shark and cartilage.
Why should you be interested in wearing shoes or clothes made from
the skin of a shark? First of all we believe that the look and
feel of it, is unlike anything else. It has a beautyfull surface
with strong character. Secondly because the skin from the
Greenland Shark has features, which rarely have been seen
before.
THE DANISH TECHNOLOGICAL INSTITUTE concluded in
June 2009 that the skin of the Greenland Shark is incredible
strong. It is between 6-7 times stronger than the skin of a cow
often used in clothing design.
The institute also tested the water vapour permeability of the
skin. This tells us how "breathable" the skin is - which is very
important concerning design for clothing -and shoes as well as
furniture design. This test gave a result, which the Danish
Technological Institute called 'excellent'.
Especially furniture designers has furthermore shown great interest
in the cartilage of the big artic shark.
